Introducing Komyut: shared commutes for Lagos

Every morning, cars leave Ajah for the Island with empty seats while the bus stop fills up. Komyut is our attempt to fill them — safely, at a fixed fare.

Every weekday morning, two kinds of commuters leave Ajah for Victoria Island. Some sit in their own cars with three empty seats. Others stand at the bus stop, working out how many connections it will take to get to their desk.

Both are making the same trip, on the same road, at roughly the same time. Komyut exists to put them in the same car.

What Komyut is

Komyut is a cost-sharing platform for commuters. Car owners who already drive to work offer the seats they are not using. Riders reserve those seats in the app and pay a fixed fare for the corridor. One account does both: drive on Monday, ride on Tuesday.

  • Scheduled, not on-demand. Offerers post the trips they are already making. Riders book ahead.
  • Fixed fares. Komyut sets one fare per corridor and departure window. No surge, no haggling.
  • Verified members. Everyone confirms their phone and identity. Offerers also submit a driver’s licence and vehicle papers, reviewed by our team.
  • Cashless. Every fare is paid in the app through Paystack.

What Komyut is not

We are not a taxi or ride-hailing service. Nobody drives for Komyut full-time, and offerers can’t take detours or set their own prices. They are commuters first, sharing the cost of a trip they would make anyway.

Same road. Shared seat. Fixed fare. That’s the whole idea.

Starting with one corridor

Rather than launching everywhere at once, we are starting with a single corridor — Ajah to Victoria Island — and doing it properly. That means mapped pickup and drop-off points, a published fare, and enough verified offerers in place before riders join, so there are seats on day one.

New corridors open when enough people ask for them. If you want Komyut on your route, join the waitlist and tell us where you start and where you work.

The pilot is opening to people on the waitlist first. Join it, and we’ll tell you when seats open on your corridor.
